Synopsis:
Danny is a scruffy small-time hustler, small in stature
with a sharp eye for a scam. Joseph is a giant of
a man, but with the mental age of a seven-year-old and
gentle as a lamb despite his extraordinary strength. Living
together in their run-down inner-city
flat, this odd couple are opposites who can't live without
each other; a unique friendship in a violent world. They've
been friends for years, but their relationship is about
to be pushed to the limit.
Danny is in trouble. Big trouble. He owes drugs money
to local crime boss Curtis, who wants the money or the
drugs. Danny doesn't have either - every penny he
begs or borrows, he immediately spends on drink, drugs
or prostitutes. To pay off his drug debt, Curtis
gives Danny one option - Joseph must fight in the terrifying
underworld world of bare-knuckle boxing.
As the violence escalates, both men meet women who could
offer them a chance of escape. Danny begins a relationship
with a prostitute named Lisa, while Joseph stumbles into
an awkward romance with the sweet, simple Isabel. But
in a succession of increasingly savage fights, Danny begins
to realise he cannot bear to see his innocent friend being
brutally beaten and bruised. Something has to give,
but in this touching drama of bleeding hearts and faces
will Danny and Joseph survive?
